P/M Iain Massie,Thank you on behalf of my whole family – Westie included – for the vital role you played in my little sister’s wedding. Your whole performance was truly perfect. The sound and demeanor of pipers for us have always signified the coming of a memorable, long-awaited, and well-earned moment in one’s life. Your commanding performance provided a structure and credence to the atmosphere Jess and Dave worked hard to create: one of mingled tension of joy and solemnity, of hopes for the future and reverence for the past, and of respect for everyone present and for those who could not be.Though the ceremony was an eclectic mix of traditions and inventions, and though the organization of the ceremony at times accommodated the spontaneous spirits of the bride and groom, your unwavering professionalism provided an undercurrent of order from the time you welcomed the first guest until you led the last guest to the reception.Professionalism and ceremony aside, your subtle warm and witty personality helped guide my sister during the long wait before the processional. You accommodated her (very!) last-minute changes to the musical selections and you quietly organized and advised those of us in the processional (giddy and nervous) as to when and how to proceed down the aisle. To me, the most poignant moment of your performance was when, after piping all guests into the reception at the entrance of the Log Cabin, you played one final tune outside, at the back of the cabin, facing the vast expanse of trees, so that your tune was heard as a final, distant acknowledgment of the ceremony. With that last tune the wedding ritual lingered, flickered, and faded as the joyous celebration of a new life began inside. The whole Pottle family deeply thanks you again for your priceless contribution to our observance of newlyweds Jessica Pottle and David Bailey’s eternal union.Thank you. |
